Membership LevelsThe Society of Academic Associations of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (SAAAPM) is the umbrella organization for the four associations listed below. The umbrella organization SAAAPM does not have individuals as members, but associations as its members. Decisions will be made by input from the four associations as represented in the governing council. The four associations are: (1) The Association of Academic Anesthesia Chairs (AAAC) representing the Chairs of the academic departments in this country. All members who are anesthesiologists, also shall be active members in good standing of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and shall continuously meet the requirements of membership in ASA as set forth in the ASA Bylaws. AAAC MembershipAAAC membership shall ordinarily be limited to a physician who is a certified specialist in anesthesiology. This physician must be either the administrative head of a Department or Division of Anesthesiology in an LCME-approved or provisionally approved Medical School in the United States or the Chair of a department that has an ACGME approved core residency program in anesthesiology. AACPD MembershipAACPD membership shall ordinarily be limited to physician anesthesiologists who are the designated core program directors of anesthesiology residency programs in the United States that have been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). AACPD Associate Level MembershipOne may become an Associate Member of AACPD if he/she is a physician anesthesiologist with significant roles in anesthesiology education and is otherwise ineligible for membership within SAAAPM. This membership requires nomination for membership by the department Chair, who is an Active Member of the AAAC. Education roles that apply include:

AASPD MembershipAASPD membership shall ordinarily be limited to physician anesthesiologists who are subspecialty program directors of anesthesiology related fellowship programs in the United States that have been approved by the ACGME. Program administrators include individuals directly associated with the administrative management and/or coordination of training programs, and educators include individuals with teaching, curriculum development and/or educational scholarship responsibilities.
