Our main research programs currently focus on OB, Ambulatory, and Pediatric Anesthesia, and the use of the Sim Lab and system issues. These include:
- Obstetrics---We are trying to identify factors predictive of failed spinal anesthesia; Novel uses of Ketorolac to prevent nausea and vomiting during cesarean section; The efficacy of programmed intermittent epidural boluses.
- Ambulatory---We are mining data from multiple surgical centers relating to the prevention of nausea and vomiting in pediatric and adult outpatients.
- Pediatrics---We had been looking at post operative behavioral changes in autistic spectrum kids given Ketamine; Currently we are looking at different institutional approaches to treating post operative pain in specific pediatric surgical populations.
- Simulation---We are looking at the use of simulation in the residency interview process(multi-mini-interview simulations).
- Systems---We are retrospectively looking at all of our ASA 1 patients done over the past 5 years to see what lab tests were ordered by surgeons, and look to see what potential cost savings could be achieved if we(anesthesia) were the only ones permitted to order labs in the peri-operative period.
