AACPD Candidate – Bean

Dr. Helen Bean is a faculty anesthesiologist at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, Washington and took over the role of Anesthesia Residency Program Director at the beginning stages of the coronavirus pandemic on April 1, 2020. Prior to this, she held the position of Associate Program Director and Medical Director of the Complex Spine Anesthesia Team. She completed her internship at University Pittsburgh Medical Center and residency training at Riverside University Health System in Southern California. Dr. Bean moved to Seattle, WA after completing her fellowship in Advanced Clinical Anesthesia at Stanford University. 

Dr. Bean also currently serves as Clinical Faculty at the University of Washington and the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University. In her second year as faculty at Virginia Mason, she received the Faculty Teaching of the Year Award, and has presented at various conferences on complex spine anesthesia and residency education. She has completed the Virginia Mason Production System for Leaders course and focused her work on noise reduction in the operating room. As a native of Santa Barbara, California, she has become an avid skier in the Pacific Northwest, and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three young children.
