The fellowship is half clinical and half non-clinical. The fellowship curriculum includes an online course to become Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified. This certification requires the fellow to complete at least one Quality Improvement project in the academic year. In addition, the fellowship provides opportunities to attend conferences such as the ASA Annual Conference and ASA Practice Management Conference. At these conferences, the fellow is expected to attend lectures regarding practice management and quality.

On clinical days, the fellow is expected to staff the operating room, supervising both CRNAs and residents. The fellow also works closely with the OR Board runners, to learn how to efficiently manage the OR and make decisions on the day of surgery. On non-clinical days, the fellow is expected to attend and contribute to OR Committee meetings, participate in at least one major research project involving practice management, and give a series of lectures to the residents.

Position: Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship

The Tulane University Department of Anesthesiology is currently taking applications for a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. This is a non-accredited 12-month fellowship program that was established in 2014. The Tulane Regional Fellow receives expert clinical and didactic training in ultrasound-guided techniques for perioperative pain management. These techniques include, but are not limited to, interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, femoral, sciatic, adductor canal, IPACK, ankle, TAP, PECS, and paravertebral blocks. There is a particular emphasis on continuous perineural catheter placement and management for both inpatients and outpatients. The department provides anesthesia and postoperative pain management for all surgical subspecialties, including the Tulane Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
