AASPD Candidate – Lupa

M. Concetta Lupa, MD

University of North Carolina School of Medicine

My name is Concetta Lupa, and I am currently an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, where I have been serving as the pediatric anesthesia fellowship director since 2013. This role has continued to fuel my excitement and engagement in fellowship education and scholarship. I currently am involved in my specialty society (SPA) and was elected to be Secretary – Treasurer of the Pediatric Anesthesia Program Director Association (PAPDA) last year, where I have found great inspiration from our program directors around the country. In this role, and through my involvement at the PAPDA, I have been involved in many initiatives, including the development of a Standard Letter of Recommendation, and Common Program Goals and Objectives that have been put forth by our organization.

As the program director of the pediatric anesthesia fellowship at UNC, I have helped to develop curricula on ultrasound, airway, professionalism, and wellness, as well as creating new evaluations to better assess milestones using an OSCE experience. At my institution, I serve on our GME resident wellness taskforce and am a member of our Academy of Educators, where I am given unique opportunities to mentor talented and excited residents interested in academic medicine. At the national level, I am exam developer and editor for the MOCA subspecialty pediatric exam.

I see opportunities for our subspecialty educators to work together and collaborate to achieve much together, and hope that I will win your vote to help achieve great things across all of our programs as a councilor at the AASPD. Thank you for your consideration!
