AASPD Candidate – Garner

Chandrika Garner, MD FASE

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center

Chandrika Garner completed medical school in 2009 at the University of Connecticut. She was an intern in Internal Medicine at Yale University before returning to the University of Connecticut to complete her residency in Anesthesiology. She then went to Duke University for a fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. In 2014, she joined the faculty at Wake Forest University Medical Center in the CT Anesthesiology section. Her interest in education began immediately; she has served on the Resident Education Committee since 2014. She became an Assistant Program Director for the Core Residency Program in 2018. She has also been involved in the ACTA Fellowship education since becoming a faculty member at Wake Forest and was asked to be the Associate Program Director of the ACTA Fellowship in 2016. She became ACTA Fellowship Program Director in 2018. In her leadership role with the ACTA Fellowship, she has updated the lecture series to include topics beyond echocardiography and expanded learning opportunities for the fellows to include partnerships with CT surgery and cardiology. Chandrika is a member and Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and an ABA board examiner. She completed the Early Career Development Program for Women, a highly selective 6-month leadership-training program that covers topics such as negotiation, conflict management, leadership styles, and mentoring. She also has completed a one-day Program Directors Development training held by the Graduate Medical Education Committee at Wake Forest. She would like to serve as Councilor for CT Anesthesiology in AASPD.
