AASPD Candidate – Eck

John Eck, MD

John Eck, MD is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Eck received his medical degree and core residency training at Duke University School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington in 1997. At the completion of fellowship, he took a faculty position at Duke where he has been extensively involved in education and administration. During his tenure at Duke, he has served as both Assistant Residency Program Director and Core Residency Program Director. Currently, he is the Fellowship Program Director in Pediatric Anesthesiology. He also serves as the Director of Education Development in Anesthesiology at Duke, a role that involves coordinating a variety of educational and research efforts and advancements both inside and outside of Duke University.

Dr. Eck has served as a pediatric anesthesiology representative on the AASPD Council for the past two years. He now hopes to have to the opportunity to help advance subspecialty training in anesthesiology as the Secretary of the AASPD Council. He is particularly interested in promoting collaboration and coordination among the anesthesiology subspecialty groups in areas of mutual interest, e.g. recruitment, assessment, and the use of innovative teaching tools and techniques.
