AASPD Candidate – Bharadwaj

Shobana Bharadwaj, MBBS

University of Maryland School of Medicine

I currently serve as the director of Obstetric Anesthesiology (OBA) fellowship program at University of Maryland since its accreditation in 2012. I earned my medical degree in India and completed my residency followed by fellowship training in 2004 at University of Maryland. I have been clinically active in Obstetric Anesthesiology with 14 years of post-fellowship experience; with focus in areas of Maternal Morbid Obesity, Placentation Abnormalities and Complex Obstetric Surgical cases. I have gained interest and experience in resident and fellow education by being the course coordinator for Board Review sessions, apart from developing curriculum for the OBA fellowship, and being an active member of the department education and clinical competence committees. I am a member of the Maryland State Maternal Mortality Committee and the University of Maryland System-wide Obstetric Patient Safety committee. While being the interim chief of the OBA division, I have gained experience in administration of the division, and the Labor and Delivery unit, which has made me realize that one of the strengths of future anesthesiologists should be a positive collaboration with multiple disciplines. This would give them an opportunity to understand and appreciate the role of other team members in improving outcomes. I am honored to be considered for this position and thank you for giving me this opportunity.
