AASPD Candidate – Choi

Ellen Choi, M.D.

University of Chicago/Comer Children's Hospital

Dr. Ellen Choi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Chicago. She received her BA in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her MD from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her internship and residency training in anesthesiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she also served as chief resident. She then completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2011. After fellowship, she returned to UCLA as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. There, she helped create a fully accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program and served as the program director before moving to Chicago in 2015. She is currently the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program director at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago, serves as the residency rotation director in pediatric anesthesia, and is heavily involved in both resident and fellow education as a teacher and administrator. Having introduced medical simulation as part of the pediatric anesthesia resident rotation and fellow curriculum, Dr. Choi has a particular interest in medical simulation and its potential for use in learner assessments. Additionally, Dr. Choi serves as Clinical Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Comer Children’s Hospital, and is interested in process and quality improvement. She currently serves as Councilor (Pediatrics, Interim) for the AASPD and is committed to furthering the mission of the SAAAPM.
