AASPD Candidate – Choi

Ellen Choi, MD

University of Chicago/Comer Children's Hospital

Dr. Ellen Choi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Chicago. She received her BA in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her MD from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her internship and residency training in anesthesiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she also served as chief resident. She then completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2011. After fellowship, she returned to UCLA as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. There, she helped create a fully accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program and served as the program director before relocating to Chicago. She has been the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program director at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago since 2015, serves as the residency rotation director in pediatric anesthesia, and is heavily involved in both resident and fellow education as a teacher and administrator. Additionally, Dr. Choi serves as the Section Chief (interim) of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Comer Children’s Hospital. Her interests include medical simulation and its potential for use in learner assessments as well as process and quality improvement. She currently serves as Councilor (Pediatrics) for the AASPD. In seeking a second term, Dr. Choi welcomes the opportunity to serve the members of the AASPD through exchange of ideas and experiences across subspecialties and academic institutions, and remains wholly committed to furthering the mission of the SAAAPM.
