Fei Chen, PhD

Dr. Fei Chen is currently an education research specialist in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Chen received her doctorate in Educational Psychology and Methodology from State University of New York, Albany. Dr. Chen has published over 20 peer-reviewed research journal articles, including two articles that won awards from journals that have international circulation and readership. Dr. Chen also co-authored a book and two book chapters on topics in learning and instruction. Her work has been focused on the research, application and evaluation of assessment and instructional design for enhanced learning in different populations, including general K-12 settings, gifted education, talent assessment and education in the professions, with a more recent focus on assessment and instruction in medical education. Dr. Chen’s work has presented at national and international professional conferences such as Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA), International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), American Educational Research Association (AERA), Northeastern Educational Research Association (NERA), and National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), including two projects on the use of simulations in medical education as an assessment and instructional tool that won best abstract awards.
