Michael C. Lewis, M.D.

As a native of London, England, Dr. Michael Lewis obtained both his undergraduate and medical degrees from University College London. Following graduation, he pursued his professional training in the UK, Israel, and the United States where he joined the faculty of the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1995. During his career at the University of Miami Dr. Lewis attained full professorship, served as Residency Program Director of the largest anesthesiology-training program in the nation and, ultimately, became the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. His accomplishments in Miami lead to his recruitment to the University of Florida College Of Medicine as Chair of Anesthesiology and subsequently to accepting the Chair Anesthesiology, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine at the Henry Ford Health System in 2015.

Dr. Lewis has been involved in organizational medicine throughout his career and has served as President of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, on the Board of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (Section Head for Subspecialties), and as Secretary of the ASAPAC. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA), Chairs the MSAPAC, and is the Immediate Past- President of the Society for Advancement of Geriatric Anesthesiology. Dr. Lewis has been honored with a Hartford award from the American Geriatric Society and, in 2007, served as a Fulbright Scholar.

Last year Dr. Lewis was elected to the SAAA Council to fill an open one-year position. During the last year he has actively participated in all activities of the Council and was chosen to serve as an Alternate Director for Academic Medicine on the ASA Board.
